Message from the Mayor
I’d like to thank the Hood River community for the opportunities to serve you over the past 19 years. My interest in zoning and land use placed me on the City Planning Commission for close to nine years. In 2011, I took a leap to become a city councilor and was appointed Mayor in September 2019. I’ve enjoyed learning about and helping make decisions for the City over the years.
I recommend serving in local government to anyone with an open mind, patience, and the ability to hear all residents. As one vote of seven, many issues turn into interesting discussions — a healthy way to share differing opinions. It is sometimes frustrating, tiring, and stressful, but the feeling of helping our community grow, prosper, and be a welcoming place for everyone outweighs any negatives.
I especially want to thank fellow councilors and City staff with whom I’ve worked with during my tenure. Their actions and service have shown me they take their positions and jobs seriously with the full community’s wellbeing at the heart. My days should be less filled with meetings and hopefully a bit more filled with family, travel, and time kiting, sewing, and swimming.
The City Council 2023 Work Plan community survey is available in English and Spanish until November 13th. An online print version can be found on the City’s website. The print version can be printed, filled out and returned to City Hall, or call or email to have a survey mailed to you. We hope you’ll provide input and ideas to inform our planning session in early December.
