Message from the Mayor
As I write this, I’m watching our latest round of “wintry mix” out the window. I’m feeling grateful to our hard-working city crews who help to keep us all safe and comfortable when the harsh weather comes in and the freeway shuts down. These conditions require extra efforts from public works, police and fire.
I recently hosted my term’s first Mayor’s Equity Advisory Council. I’m so grateful for this group of dedicated people who have agreed to advise me on important access and equity topics. Implicit bias is a powerful force, and it is critical to have different perspectives and lenses included in the conversation. I’m excited to continue our work together to achieve our goals for our City and all its residents.
Other recent topics of discussion at City Council include a possible land swap with the Parks and Recreation District for their pool replacement, the potential of a joint public safety facility with the County, refining our sewer requirements for heavy industrial users, and moving ahead with hydroelectric generation in our waterline. With a lot going on, there are also a lot of good folks working on these projects. Stay warm.
Onward! Adelante!
Mayor Paul Blackburn
