Mann Park to receive new playground equipment
The community will soon enjoy new playground equipment at Mann Park on the west side of Hood River. The new playground structure, which can be used by all ages and abilities, will be delivered and installed this spring. Mann Park, located on Eugene Street, currently features older play structures limited to a slide, carousel, and small swing set. The new structure will feature a six-swing set, toddler play structure, a two to 12-year-old play structure, benches, and boulders.
Efforts to improve the playground have been spearheaded by a community initiative of the Hood River Lion’s Club (e-clubhouse.org/sites/hoodriver/), the local branch of the international humanitarian service club, with a donation of $82,000. Those funds will be primarily used to purchase and install the play structure. In turn, the City will prep the site for installation, and cover the purchase and installation of the “pour-in-place” surface, including the cement retaining wall, totaling approximately $100,000.
The new playground will cover a similar footprint to the existing free-standing play structures leaving ample green space for others to enjoy. No trees will be removed.
While the exact timing and duration of installation is dependent on various factors including weather, neighbors can expect the installation to last up to six weeks. The park will remain open to the public during installation.
