Spring marks the beginning of the City’s construction season

Construction Updates around town

*Stormwater outfall at the waterfront was recently completed*

The coming of spring also marks the beginning of the City’s construction season. The City has several improvement projects that could result in temporary access and travel restrictions. For the most up-to-date details on projects, check our Construction Blog at cityofhoodriver.gov/construction-updates/

Here is an overview of the projects and their status as of April 2024.

*Water and wastewater infrastructure to be replaced between 2nd and 6th on Montello*

Montello Water and Wastewater Replacement – Construction begins in April 2024 on the Montello Water and Wastewater Replacement Project. This project is part of the City’s broader initiative to replace leaded joints and aging clay pipes. During construction, Montello Avenue from 2nd – 6th Streets will be closed to through traffic, though local access will be maintained as much as possible. North/South Streets will remain open, however, occasional flagging and closures may be necessary. The project is expected to be completed by October 2024.

Second and Oak – Installation of a traffic signal at Second and Oak Streets is on schedule to be completed by Memorial Day. Completed projects include drilled shaft foundations for the light poles, stormwater infrastructure, and underground work. Remaining tasks include completing the sidewalks and ADA ramps, standing up the lights, and final paving.

Cascade and Rand – Progress on the ODOT-led project to install a traffic light and realign the road is on track for completion by May 24, 2024. Most of the underground work is complete, along with the sidewalks, curb ramps, and retaining wall. Remaining tasks include the final paving, standing of the lights, and above-ground wiring.

Waterfront Stormwater Replacement – The majority of phase two of the project is complete, which involved replacing the stormwater outfall by the waterfront. All underground work and paving have been finished. Phase three of the project, which will include wetland work and stormwater infrastructure in the downtown area, is in the late stages of design.
