Celebrating Our “If I Were Mayor” Contest Winners!

The City of Hood River is thrilled to announce the winners of this year’s If I Were Mayor student contest! This marks the first time in many years that Hood River has participated in the statewide competition, organized by the Oregon Mayors Association.
Local students showed creativity and insight as they imagined what they would do as mayor—and we’re proud to recognize their efforts. Congratulations to Loula Clark (pictured above center), a fourth grader from Parkdale Elementary, who took first place in the poster category (winning poster left)! If Loula was mayor, the City would create a family fun area with summer and winter activities, such as a water park and an ice rink!

Peyton Ziegler (pictured above left), earned second place, and Avia McNulty (pictured above right) came in third. The winners were recognized at the April 14th City Council meeting where they received their prizes. Loula’s winning entry will now advance to the state-level competition, where students have a chance to win up to $500 in prizes. The posters are on display in the downtown Hood River Library.
A big thank-you to all the students who participated. Your ideas and enthusiasm for community leadership are inspiring! The City of Hood River looks forward to building on this success and expanding the contest in the years ahead.
Way to go, winners!
