Two intersection improvements planned this year
Construction will soon begin on two major intersection improvements in the City of Hood River. The West Cascade at Rand Rd and the Second and Oak St. intersections have been in the works for several years with planning, design and engineering.
2nd and Oak Traffic Light
The City plans to install a traffic light at the intersection of 2nd and Oak in the downtown area. The intersection upgrade improves traffic flow while providing better safety for pedestrians and bicyclists.
The project is scheduled to go out to bid in February, with construction to start after Labor Day 2023. Early bidding schedule and contractor selection is intended to streamline the construction process as several of the components for the lights have a very long lead time.
The new intersection design shows the future layout. There will be a change to the curb and ADA ramps as well as the addition of the light.
U.S. 30 at Rand Road construction begins spring 2023
The City of Hood River and Oregon Department of Transportation will soon begin construction to rebuild the intersection of Rand Road and U.S. 30 (Cascade Avenue). The project will realign the intersection, add a new traffic signal and street lighting, and improve sidewalks, curb ramps and stormwater drainage. The changes will make it safer and easier for all travelers to cross the intersection. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2023 and finish by summer 2024.
Construction will focus on one corner of the intersection at a time. Throughout the majority of the construction, one travel lane in each direction on U.S. 30 will remain open. Expect occasional delays, single-lane closures, flaggers directing traffic and temporary lane shifts. Sidewalk users will be able to follow signed and accessible detours that will include two temporary crosswalks across U.S. 30.
