#2 Taylor Avenue Neighborhood Connection

The City’s Urban Renewal Agency gave its direction for a recommended alternative for the Heights Streetscape Plan. The process, which has received broad community input for alternatives for 12th and 13th streets in the Heights, now proceeds to Phase 3 for refinement of the preferred alternative. Design

Description

Full reconstruction of Taylor Avenue with the addition of a large shared use bike/ped path.  Interim bike lanes added to 12th Street between Pine Street and Taylor Avenue to create a safe, comfortable bicycle and pedestrian route across the Heights.

Why This Project?

Establish Pine Street to Taylor Avenue as the safe, comfortable route across the Heights for people walking and biking. Taylor Avenue is redesigned with a protected bike/ped shared use path and one-way westbound vehicle traffic. This will be a safer and more comfortable east/west route for May Street elementary school students to avoid challenging crossing on May Street.

Key Features

  • Wide shared use path on Taylor Avenue
  • One-way westbound vehicle traffic
  • Wider sidewalks with improved accessibility
  • Interim improvements on 12th Street between Pine and Taylor
  • Safe connections to local schools and parks

Community Goals Addressed

  • Safe Comfortable Streets for People
  • Promote Livable Community & Economy
  • Local Identity
