New Civics Academy Course Offered: Hood River 101 in Spanish Spring 2025
Want to learn more about local government and how to get involved?
The City of Hood River with The Next Door Inc. is hosting a Civics Academy: Hood River 101 course in Spanish. This course is designed to help break down barriers between the City and the public, so that community members not only understand how our municipal government works, but also feel empowered to make a difference in our community. You might even feel inspired to serve on one of our boards or committees! This is also an opportunity for the City of Hood River to hear from you, learn what interests you, and address your concerns.
This free course will cover all City departments and provide an introduction to the role of local government. The in-person, interactive classes will be held on Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. with refreshments and childcare provided. Graduation will take place during our City Council meeting on Monday, April 14 at 6 p.m. To graduate, participants need to attend both sessions offered on Saturdays. The wastewater treatment plant tour is optional.

- Saturday, April 5 , 10am-4pm – City Hall, 211 2nd St.
- Ready, Set, Gov ! Administration and Budget.
- Roads, water and sewer: Public Works.
- Firefighters and EMS
- Tuesday, April 8, 5:30pm-7pm – Where does it go? Wastewater Treatment Plant Tour. 818 Riverside Dr. ** Optional Tour **
- Saturday, April 12, 10am-4pm – City Hall, 211 2nd St.
- Police Department
- From dirt to housing: Planning and Building.
- Monday, April 14 – Graduation at the City Council meeting, 6pm. City Hall , 211 2nd St.
