You’re Invited: Town Hall to Discuss ICE Impacts on the Community

The Hood River City Council, with the support of The Next Door, Inc., is hosting a community Town Hall.  The goal is to hear from community members about the impacts of ICE actions.

When: Thursday, April 23, 2026 at 6:00 pm

Where: Hood River Middle School Auditorium, 1602 May St, Hood River, OR 97031

The City of Hood River commits to being a welcoming, inclusive, and Sanctuary City for all.  It stands ready to take action to support those who may be impacted by the recent increase in ICE actions.

The City has:

  • Declared a State of Emergency, starting December 12. This allows the City to respond more quickly to community needs and provide needed support.
  • Trained all staff on how to respond to requests from ICE and to make sure Sanctuary Promise Laws are followed.
  • Adopted Resolution 2026-02.  It declares the City of Hood River a Sanctuary City for all people, no matter their race, national origin, immigration or refugee status.
  • Installed signs in all City buildings clearly marking private versus public spaces.
  • Created a resource guide for other Oregon cities and counties on actions they can take in response to ICE impacts.

These are ongoing actions:

  • Increase the information shared with the community.  This includes:
    • How to identify City employees such as police officers and public works staff.
    • Understanding your rights.
    • Sanctuary City Resolution.
    • Accessing City services,
    •  Resources for those who may be impacted.
  • Conduct listening sessions with impacted community members with the support of The Next Door, Inc.

These are upcoming actions:

  • Hold a Town Hall meeting to hear from all interested community members.
  • After the listening sessions and Town Hall, the City Council will discuss further actions to support impacted community members.

We hope to see you at the Hood River Middle School on Thursday, April 23 at 6 pm!
