Hood River Fire & EMS is under the new leadership of Fire Chief Josh Rogers. Chief Rogers was selected after an extensive search process following Chief Leonard Damian’s announcement of his retirement. The City of Hood River thanks Chief Damian for more than nine years of service and looks forward to this new chapter for the department under Rogers’ leadership.
Rogers began his fire service career as a firefighter/paramedic in Hapeville, Georgia, and later advanced his career with the City of Dallas, Oregon, where he has served since 2022. Throughout his career in both departments, he has progressed through increasing levels of responsibility, including the ranks of Lieutenant, Captain, Shift Commander, and most recently, Deputy Fire Chief in the City of Dallas. His experience in establishing procedures, mentorship and training, budget reviews, working with healthcare partners, and emergency management equips him well to address the operational, financial, and staffing challenges faced by today’s fire department, all while prioritizing health and safety.
Rogers received his Bachelor of Science in Fire Administration from Columbia Southern University in Orange Beach, Alabama. He holds a Pro Board accredited Fire Officer IV certification and earned his Executive Fire Officer certificate from the National Fire Academy.
Rogers was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, where growing up in a large, dynamic city shaped his appreciation for community, teamwork, and public service. He spent much of his early career and adult life in Atlanta, where he met his wife, Andrea. After living there for a decade, they relocated to the Pacific Northwest to be closer to her family. While the move marked a significant change, Rogers has embraced the region and now proudly considers the Pacific Northwest home.
Rogers shared that he is excited not only about the opportunity to lead the Hood River Fire & EMS Department, but also about living and serving in the unique Columbia River Gorge. Having spent much of his life in large metropolitan areas, he values the strong sense of connection found in Hood River and looks forward to being part of a close-knit community while supporting the firefighter and EMS professionals who serve it every day.
“I’m honored to join the City of Hood River and serve this community. I look forward to working collaboratively with city staff, community partners, and residents while supporting the dedicated firefighters and EMS professionals who protect and serve the City and surrounding communities, ensuring high-quality emergency services now and into the future.”
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Rogers enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking, visiting the coast, and following his favorite sports team, the Atlanta Braves. Please join the City of Hood River in welcoming Chief Rogers to Hood River Fire & EMS!
