Lack of locker room means that officers must store gear in patrol office, making a cramped space even more cluttered.
Cramped space that also serves as a hallway creates significant distractions to officers writing reports.
Separated from supervisor offices, best practice is to have Sargent offices with line-of-sight to patrol work areas to promote close coordination.
Because the station does not have a secure holding cell, Officers must either release or book in-custody suspects into NORCOR before writing reports.
Main Open Office - 497 sq. ft.

Poor layout from the main office’s origin as a Fire Engine garage does not allow for separation of traffic. Members of the public getting pre-employment fingerprints, in-custody suspects, and crime witnesses all pass through the same area.
Entrance has no reinforcement and has been subject to vandalism, including the front door being broken through in July, 2020.
There is no lobby outside of secure areas where individuals must always be accompanied.
IT Server/Utility Room

IT servers and switches are in the basement of a 100-year-old masonry building.
There is no back-up power for the building, meaning the office loses all electricity whenever power is out downtown which can happen several times per year
Meeting, Interview, Breakroom - 198 sq. ft.

Single room available for meetings, breaks, interviews (both in-custody & victims), and laundry. All these uses should be in separate and dedicated rooms.
Provides sole access to Records Room, limiting access to records room when meeting room is being used.
No audio/visual technology to assist with interviews.
Unsecure room, meaning in-custody suspects cannot be left alone and must always remain under the direct control of an officer.
Electrical cut switch for the building should be in a utility room and not a meeting room.
Evidence Processing - 150 sq. ft

Only passive ventilation creates unnecessarily hazardous working conditions when processing drugs like methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine.
Lack of modern receiving evidence stations makes filing evidence a manual process in order to maintain legally required chain-of-custody controls.
Parking Area/Driveway

Uncovered parking. Patrol vehicles can be covered in snow, delaying response times during winter months
Originally a one-way drive-through into the 1900s Fire Station Engine Bay. The driveway was not designed for vehicles to use as an exit onto State street.
