The Columbia-Cascade urban renewal district is Hood River’s oldest and most established district located in the downtown core area. After over 30 years in operation, FY2019-20 will be the final year the Columbia-Cascade District will collect tax increment. Over these decades, the district has utilized tax-increment financing to first revitalize downtown Columbia, Cascade, Industrial and adjoining streets to spur redevelopment of the old cannery complex area, followed by upgraded streets, sidewalks amenities and infrastructure from State Street north between Front Street and 7th Street. With final projects to come, the impending retirement of the Columbia-Cascade urban renewal district is expected to release a projected $110,000,000 in assessed value on to the general tax rolls.
