Tribute to Rick Peargin
Hood River recently lost a community member, Rick Peargin. Rick worked for 28 years as the City’s right-of-way inspector and retired in February 2023. Everyone who worked with Rick recalls how he made the workday enjoyable and fun, but still productive.
Public Works Director Rich Rice said, “I’ll always remember how Rick was able to make me laugh and put a smile on my face. We threw a retirement party for him on his last day of work, and it was telling how many people came. Contractors, engineers, friends, and community members all showed up to wish him well in his retirement.”
Public Works Foreman Adam Schmid added, “He was a great coworker and an even better friend!”

Rick’s work touched many of the developments in our town and he took pride in ensuring that construction and development in the city was done safely and met required standards. He passed away in March 2023 and will be greatly missed by his friends and colleagues here at the City. He leaves behind many family members, including his parents, wife, daughter, granddaughters, brother, sister and extended family.
