Traffic School: Traffic Safety Course

Hood River Municipal offers an online version of traffic school for defendants who qualify. The Defendant is responsible for paying all court fees and will pay the course fee to the provider. The Traffic School Safety program is designed to allow drivers to recognize and review their driving habits, attitudes, and behaviors. The benefit of taking the class is that when the fine is paid and the class is taken, the offense does not get sent to the DMV and does not go on to the Defendant’s driving record.

Not Eligible for Traffic School if:

  • You hold a commercial driver’s license (CDL)
  • Your citation was issued at the time of an accident.
  • You have any moving violations or traffic crime convictions within 3 years.
  • You have enrolled or have participated in a traffic safety program in the past 3 years.
  • You do not hold a current valid driver’s license or permit.
  • The following offenses do not qualify for the traffic safety course:
    • Driving uninsured
    • No driver’s license
    • Driving while suspended or revoked
    • Failure to stop for school bus lights
    • Speeding in a school zone
    • Speed racing on the highway
    • Organizing a speed racing event

Further Information:

Eligible applicants will have 30 days to complete the course, pay the provider class registration fee, and pay the diversion fee to the Court. When those conditions are met, the Court will dismiss the charges, meaning the offense will not be recorded onto the Defendant’s driving record.

The program fees are significantly less than the presumptive fine on the ticket. The Defendant will only need to pay the program fees, including court and class fees. The exact class registration fees can be found on the provider’s website. This means the Defendant can avoid the total fine and still benefit from the program.

DO NOT register for class unless you have received a court referral.
