Gladys Rivera was newly appointed to City Council on December 9th, given the oath of office by Municipal Court Judge Ruben Cleaveland with son Alessandro by her side. She then joined fellow councilors for the Council meeting.
Born and raised in Hood River, Rivera works in the healthcare industry and hopes to be a bridge to City Council and underserved members of the community. She has experience on numerous boards, is biracial, bicultural and bilingual. “We must create an inclusive environment in our community, embracing our differences,” she said.
Rivera’s appointment fills the seat vacated by Kate McBride who was appointed Mayor in September. The term for the Council appointment expires December 31, 2020. Three applicants were interviewed for the vacancy and each sitting councilor thanked applicants and expressed appreciation of their qualifications and interest.
