Mayor’s Musings
Dear neighbors,
Welcome to fall! It was a long, dry summer this year. I hope everyone was able to keep up with the bustle of the visitor season AND get outside for some fun on the mountain or river. I’m enjoying the sparser traffic and moisture.
I’m also enjoying working with our new City Manager. Ms. Fuller just passed her 2nd “month-iversary” and is fitting in beautifully at this crucial position. I’m a very part-time volunteer as Mayor; the City Manager is the day-to-day CEO of the City and plays an enormous role in the continued success of Hood River. We made a good choice.
I recently travelled to Washington, DC at the invitation of Senator Merkley. I attended a Rural Summit, an event organized to hear from local leaders about the issues we face in our home communities. I’m pleased Hood River was represented on the national level, and I’m optimistic this kind of close relationship with our federal leadership will benefit our City.
And lastly, PLEASE VOTE. I know the clutter of lawn signs can be kind of unsightly, but it’s very important that we each exercise our right to select our leadership and laws. And don’t be afraid to only fill out part of the ballot; if you don’t have an opinion on an issue or candidate, just skip it. It’s not a test, it’s an opportunity to voice your opinion.
